My Journey from Engineering to Data Science

Today I want to share my story of transitioning from Electrical Engineering to Data Science.

The Beginning

During my B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Mar Baselios College, I was always fascinated by problem-solving and analytical thinking. But it wasn't until I encountered data analysis in a project that I realized my true passion.

The Turning Point

I discovered that the mathematical and analytical skills I developed in engineering were perfectly suited for data science. The ability to:

  • Break down complex problems systematically
  • Apply mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios
  • Think critically about solutions
  • Work with numbers and patterns

These skills translated beautifully into the world of data science.

What I'm Learning Now

Currently pursuing my MSc in Data Science & AI at the University of Liverpool, I'm diving deep into:

  • Machine Learning: Building predictive models and understanding algorithms
  • Statistical Analysis: Applying probability and statistics to data problems
  • Python Programming: Writing clean, efficient code for data analysis
  • Data Visualization: Turning complex data into clear insights

My First Projects

I've already completed several projects that showcase my growing skills:

  1. Customer Churn Prediction - Achieved 84% F1-score identifying at-risk customers
  2. Airbnb Price Prediction - Built a model with 87% accuracy
  3. Sentiment Analysis - Classified 50,000+ movie reviews with 89% accuracy

What's Next

I'm excited to continue learning, building projects, and eventually working on real-world data problems that make a difference. My engineering background gives me a unique perspective, and I'm eager to see where this journey takes me.

If you're also considering a transition into data science, my advice is: Start building projects now. There's no better way to learn than by doing.
